Reliquary
Unit No. 2-3
A repository for sacred relics
Antique dealers/furniture restorers, Al and Jamie relocated from London to Hastings four years ago and started RELIQUARY at the yard within the bones of the old forge.
With a passion for simplicity of form, whether 18th century or twentieth century, they deal in a constantly changing, carefully curated eclectic mix of antiques/furniture/design. Early Georgian oak furniture sits comfortably alongside Biedermeier, and Bauhaus mingles deliciously with French provincial and folk art. Simplicity being the thing that connects them.
From humble beginnings in the nineties with stalls on both Portobello Road and Covent Garden to a shop on Richmond Hill, dealing in architectural/ecclesiastical salvage, pre/post war modernism, gardenalia, primitive/folk and European country furniture, they built up a loyal client base supplying stores in London and New York, including Harrods, Libertys, Anthropology NY, Aesop and restoration work for English Heritage. Richard E Grant, The Jaggers, Jennifer Saunders and Jonny Depp - to name a few of their previous happy customers (everyone loves a celebrity client, right!?)
Together with their black pug, Patti Smith, they scour the land sourcing pieces from country houses and dilapidated out-buildings, to clearing entire rundown Victorian nurseries and decommissioned museum store rooms, always on the hunt for that next relic.
Previous publications featuring pieces include: The World of Interiors, Homes and Gardens, Wallpaper and The Guardian. Pieces for film productions also include: Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror and Mike Leigh's Mr Turner.
